The Atlanta Authors Series is sponsored by the Friends of the Roswell Library and the Friends of the East Roswell Library as well as both branches of the Fulton County Library System, to give patrons of the library a sample of what local authors are writing and to give local authors the opportunity to share what they have written. Authors will talk about themselves, and their books, answer questions, and sign books for attendees. All of these programs will be held in Roswell and/or virtually online and are open to the public at no charge.
Friends of Roswell Library (FORL) members Jane Swift, Ann Creech and Janice Tedford started the Atlanta Authors Series in 2008. This was a program to invite local authors to come share their books with the library patrons. Christina Graciela, author of My Cafe Cabana and winner of the 2006 Write A Novel contest came the first year as did Joshilyn Jackson with one of her first novels.
Gail Reid took on the Chairperson’s role in 2016 through 2021. The program presented five to six authors annually from the Greater Atlanta area whose books were produced by major publishers. The 2020 pandemic limited in-person events, so Atlanta Authors went virtual, making authors available to the community via Zoom. The online model allowed people from all across the country and the world to “tune in” to programming.
Deanna Smith lead Atlanta Authors from 2021-2023. As in-person programming returned post-Covid, Atlanta Authors continued the online option so that guests could attend in person or join a Zoom presentation. Most online presentations were recorded for future viewing. Bookmiser Book Stores, which had been working with Roswell Reads on programming, also supported Atlanta Authors in finding outstanding local authors to increase audience interest and participation, as did the Atlanta Writer’s Club.
In 2023, Louise Conti took on Atlanta Authors Chairmanship. FORL and the City of Roswell signed an agreement to offer programming through the Roswell Cultural Arts Center (RCAC). As “the B side” room became available at RCAC, Atlanta Authors began taking advantage of having an alternate location.
A Facebook page and a Website were developed for the program in 2024.
Members of the Atlanta Authors Committee grew in 2024 to include:
Louise Conti, Deanna Smith, Annelle Gerson, Judy Stanton, Marilyn Baron, Kathy Cioffi, George Weinstein, Debbie Weiss, and Diane Stephenson.
Our team is composed of dedicated volunteers who are committed to creating a community of readers who are passionate about great literature.
